Reflusso, dal latino “refluere” scorrere all’indietro, nasce come conseguenza della mia ricerca artistica sulla memoria, intesa come uno spazio nebuloso di immagini che costruiamo, decostruiamo e ricostruiamo a nostro piacimento o a nostro servizio. Come spiega Kendel nel testo “Arte e neuroscienza” le aree corticali, del cervello umano, preposte alla visione si avvalgono di due processi com­plementari tra loro: il processo bottom-up e quello top-down.
Il primo ci permette di estrarre le informazioni chiave dal mondo esterno, come i contorni, la forma, il contrasto figura-sfondo e luce-ombra. Il pro­cesso top-down, invece, si basa sulle funzioni mentali e cognitive di ordine superiore come la memoria, l’attenzione, le aspettative e le associazioni visi­ve apprese e fa, quindi, riferimento prevalentemente al contesto psicologico soggettivo, in virtù del quale ogni uomo attribuisce allo stesso percetto una quota di significati aggiuntivi molto personali.
L'opera  si presenta come un contenitore espositivo che però  non permette una visione limpida di ciò che contiene, ma allo stesso tempo capace di custodirlo nel tempo. Questa contraddizione concettuale- visiva parte proprio dall’analisi dei due processi cognitivi sopracitati, cercando tramite l’indefinitezza della figura centrale, di far nascere nel fruitore una rete di relazioni appartenenti ad una sfera intima e personale.

La struttura in ferro accoglie un cubo in plexiglass satinato,  caratterizzato da un prolungamento cilindrico posto al centro della base.  Il cuore dell’opera è rappresentato da una scultura in cera che raffigura un volto umano destinato a mutare nel tempo, a sciogliersi ed essere inglobato e custodito all’interno del cilindro, che funge quindi da contenitore, un luogo intimo della memoria.
Si tratta di un’opera  che comunica con il tempo,  racconta una dimenticanza ,  una memoria andata perduta, ma presente in qualche luogo lontano. Dialoga allo stesso modo  del cervello umano, che custodisce  i ricordi, pur non riuscendo ad accedervi pienamente e lucidamente nella totalità, così da avere una visione chiara e limpida della nostra vita, catalogando con cura le esperienze che si accumulano con la crescita.


Reflusso, from the Latin "reflux" to flow backwards, was born as a consequence of my artistic research on memory, understood as a hazy space of images that we build, deconstruct and reconstruct at our will or at our service. As Kendel explains in the text “Art and neuroscience”, the cortical areas of the human brain in charge of vision make use of two complementary processes: the bottom-up and top-down processes.
The first allows us to extract key information from the outside world, such as outlines, shape, figure-background and light-shadow contrast. The top-down process, on the other hand, is based on higher-order mental and cognitive functions such as memory, attention, expectations and visual associations learned and therefore mainly refers to the subjective psychological context, by virtue of which every every man attributes to the same percept a share of very personal additional meanings.
The work is presented as an exhibition container which however does not allow a clear vision of what it contains, but at the same time capable of preserving it over time. This conceptual-visual contradiction starts precisely from the analysis of the two aforementioned cognitive processes, seeking through the indefiniteness of the central figure to create in the user a network of relationships belonging to an intimate and personal sphere.
 

The iron structure houses a satin plexiglass cube, characterized by a cylindrical extension placed in the center of the base. The heart of the work is represented by a wax sculpture depicting a human face destined to change over time, melting and being incorporated and kept inside the cylinder, which therefore acts as a container, an intimate place of memory.
It is a work that communicates with time, tells of a forgetfulness, a lost memory, but present in some distant place. It dialogues in the same way as the human brain, which guards memories, while not being able to access them fully and lucidly in totality, so as to have a clear and limpid vision of our life, carefully cataloging the experiences that accumulate with growth.
